Burleigh County is located in central North Dakota. it is named for Walter A. Burleigh, a prominent physician and lawyer.
The seat and largest city are both Bismarck, which is also the capitol of North Dakota.
Burleigh County borders Sheridan, Kidder, Emmons, Morton, Oliver and McLean Counties.
Main highways through the county include I-94, US-83, ND-14, ND-36 and ND-41.
